Synopsis:

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Whoever coined that phrase is a bald-faced liar. Words are often the sharpest weapon of all, triggering some of the most powerful emotions a human can experience.
“You’re pregnant.”
“It’s a boy.”
“Your son needs a heart transplant.”
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Lies.
Syllables and letters may not be tangible, but they can still destroy your entire life faster than a bullet from a gun.
Two words—that was all it took to extinguish the sun from my sky.
“He’s gone.”
For ten years, the darkness consumed me.
In the end, it was four deep, gravelly words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
“Hi. I’m Porter Reese.”

Review: 5 STARS!!

Oh my gosh, this book...WAS AMAZING and emotional and just gut wrenching, but in the best possible way.

Charlotte has gone through one of the worst things any mother can go through...and I felt that emotion through the words that Aly Martinez wrote. As a mother myself, I really felt the depth of Charlotte's loss and I really connected with her character. She lived in darkness, she was going through the motions of life, but not really living and I understood that. I think Charlotte's determination and her endless hope for her child was probably her only ray of sunshine. When she and Porter meet, it was fate. They were meant to be in each other's lives. He opened Charlotte up and instead of running away from her broken pieces, he carefully picked them up and cherished them and put them back together as best as he could. Porter is going through his own issues, but I think he is perfect for Charlotte and vice versa.

This book isn't just about losing a child and the aftermath of that, but it's about the grieving, the hope, the finding your way again and the love that you find along the way. This book was heartbreaking, I'm pretty sure I cried more in this book than any book that I have read lately, this book was also beautiful is regards to Charlotte & Porter's relationship and Charlotte finding her way through her heartbreak. I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!!! Aly Martinez is a fantastic writer and this book just proves how true that statement is.

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children. Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person. She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
