Review for Turn Me Loose by Anne Calhoun

Title: Turn Me Loose
Series: Alpha Ops #3
Author: Anne Calhoun
Publisher: St. Martin's Paperbacks
Publish Date: May 30, 2017

When she was on the verge of adulthood, Riva Henneman committed a crime and got caught red-handed. Luckily, she was busted by a HOT young cop...who also had a big heart. A one-time SEAL candidate, Officer Ian Hawthorn knew how it felt to have your dreams derailed. So he gave Riva a choice: face prison time or work for him as confidential informant. But even a get-out-of-jail-free card comes with a cost...

Years later, Ian still remembers beautiful, innocent Riva--and the smoldering attraction they shared but both tried to ignore. Will they have a second chance, now that they're back in each other's lives? Riva's work with inner-city children has led to a surprise run-in with Ian, who has his own agenda--one that could put them both in grave danger. Is their desire worth the risk this time?

This is the first book by Anne Calhoun that I have read and I truly enjoyed it. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and had me swooning & rooting for Ian & Riva.

Riva was an interesting character. We meet her when she is 18 and then we meet her again when she is 25 and she is a completely different person. She has made a simple and rewarding life for herself. I loved that she didn't let what had happened when she was 18 get her down; she picked up her life and made something of herself. Riva is a very caring person; she loves her mother to pieces and the kids that she teaches, you can really tell how much she really cares with how she encourages them and is always there for them. Riva is also strong. She is willing to do whatever to get her mother help and her inner strength was shown just by how she has turned her life around. Her attraction towards Ian Hawthorn has been 7 years in the making and when they run into each other again, where they are both older and wiser, she doesn't think she can fight the attraction anymore.

Ian is an emotional bomb that needs to be exploded. He has so much that he keeps bottled up inside of him, that it is not healthy. He is a great cop, follows the rules and wants nothing more than to take criminals down, but when Riva comes back into her life, his stronghold on his emotions that were buried deep down, will come rising to the surface!! Riva loosens Ian up and I think that it was good for him. He went through something heartbreaking and he has been trying to just prove to himself and others that he is okay. I loved how determined Ian was, sometimes it annoyed Riva, but I found it endearing. I think Ian was a really great match for Riva, because where Riva was free and wild, Ian was reserved and calm. They were absolutely perfect for each other!!

The banter between Ian and Riva was flirty, serious, fun, sexy and eye opening. They are both thrust into a dangerous world, but then again, they have done this before, so it should be easy; nope. Their attraction becomes too intense and turns into something neither of them even thought of in years. Anne Calhoun wrote a story that had me hanging onto every word and characters that I really enjoyed. I am very excited about what Anne Calhoun comes out with next!!
