Review for Down Home Cowboy by Maisey Yates

Title: Down Home Cowboy
Series: Copper Ridge: The Donnelly's #2
Author: Maisey Yates
Publisher: Harlequin
Publish Date: June 27, 2017

This Texas Cowboy has come home to Cooper Ridge to put down roots...but will he risk his heart again?

Asked where he'd be at this point in his life, and Cain Donnelly would have said anywhere but Cooper Ridge, Oregon, living with his estranged brothers. But sine his wife abandoned them, both he and his daughter, Violet, are in need of a fresh start, so he's back to claim his share of the family ranch. Local baker Alison Davis is a delicious temptation, but she's also his daughter's mentor and new boss. That makes her off-limits...until she offers a no-strings deal that no red-blooded cowboy could resist.

Alison has worked tirelessly to rebuild her life, and she won't jeopardize her hard-won independence. Especially if it also complicates Cain's relationship with Violet. But with Cain offering a love she never thought was possible, Alison has to find the courage to let her past go...or watch her future ride away for good.

I have been dying for Alison's book ever since Part Time Cowboy and this book definitely did not disappoint!! Down How Cowboy was about letting go of the past and moving forward and Cain and Alison are two characters who are just perfect for each other!!

Cain is struggling with life and his daughter. All throughout his life, he has felt abandoned by the people who should be there for him. He is strong because he keeps going and everything that he is doing is for him and his daughter, Violet. Violet doesn't let her dad have it easy either. She is lashing out and I know exactly how she feels. I was happy that we got to know Violet more in this book, because getting in her head and hearing her thoughts, it really tugged at my heart and had me thinking of my teenage years. Cain tries his best with her, he just isn't a great communicator. He is also scared, because he didn't want Violet to ever go through what he did, and so when her mother walked out on both of them, he felt helpless.

I have loved Alison's character since Part Time Cowboy and seeing her character and how she was growing in the background of all of the previous books really just fed my need for her own book. I love how Alison took charge of her life after being beaten down for years. I also love how her bakery isn't just her income, it is a place for women and/or men who have been dragged through life and they are looking for a way to start over. Her friendship with Violet, I think was good for both of them. Violet may have been only 16, but she said some powerful stuff that really hit Alison. Seeing Alison talk about her past and how we saw bits and pieces of it really was an eye opener and it explained so much of why she did what she did and why she stayed.

Cain & Alison were attracted to each other right from the beginning and that lust just grew into something big and lovely. Cain pushed Alison out of the bubble that put herself in and Alison opened Cain's eyes to not only his own life, but his relationship with Violet. Both of them had heartache in their past, but they helped each other move on and heal. I loved the fact that Cain and his brothers started hanging out and getting to know each other as adults. Maisey Yates really knows how to write a story that will just grab your attention and keep it, while you fall in love with the characters and the Oregon coast. I am SO excited for the next book in this series!!

Wild Ride Cowboy: August 29, 2017

He's come back to Cooper Ridge, Oregon, to keep a promise -- even if it means losing his heart...

Putting down roots in Cooper Ridge was never Alex Donnelly's intention. But if there's one thing the ex-military man knows, it's that life rarely unfolds as expected. If it did, his best friend and brother-in-arms would still be alive. And Alex wouldn't have inherited a ranch or responsibility for his late comrade's sister -- a woman who, despite her inexperience, can bring tough-as-iron Alex to his knees.

Clara Campbell didn't ask for a hero to ride in and fix her ranch and her life. All she wants is the one thing stubborn, honorable Alex is reluctant to give: a chance to explore their intense chemistry. But Clara has a few lessons to teach him, too...about trusting his heart and his instincts, and letting love take him on the wildest adventure of all.
