Review for The Secrets of the Tulip Sisters by Susan Mallery

Title: Secrets of the Tulip Sisters
Author: Susan Mallery
Publisher: Harlequin
Publish Date: July 11, 2017

A captivating new novel about the problem with secrets, the power of love, and the unbreakable bond between sisters from #1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery

Kelly Murphy isn't used to chaos. Her life as a tulip farmer is routine, after all--up at dawn, off to work, lather, rinse, repeat. But everything changes one sunwashed summer with two dramatic homecomings: Griffith Burnett--Tulpen Crossing's prodigal son who's set his sights on Kelly, and her beautiful, wayward and, as far as Kelly is concerned, unwelcome sister. Tempted by Griffith, annoyed by Olivia, Kelly is overwhelmed by the secrets that were so easy to keep when she was alone.

But Olivia's return isn't as triumphant as she pretends. Her job has no future and, ever since her dad sent her away from the bad boy she loved, she has felt cut off from her past. She's determined to reclaim her man and her place in the family...whether her sister likes it or not. For ten years, she and Kelly have been strangers. Olivia will get by without her approval now.

While Kelly and Olivia butt heads, their secrets tumble out in a big, hot mess, revealing some truths that will change everything they thought they knew. Can they forgive each other--and themselves--and redefine what it means to be sisters?

The Tulip Sisters are in for the most colorful summer of their lives...

This is the first book that I have read by Susan Mallery and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! This book was filled with forgiveness, family, learning to love yourself how you are and discovering new aspects of life.

Kelly & Olivia are estranged sisters who have a lot of work ahead of them if they want a relationship with each other. Kelly has a very one tracked mind. She doesn't do frills or make up, she is a tulip farmer, but she is also comfortable in her own skin. Olivia is completely opposite; she is glitz & glam, but she doesn't feel like she belongs anywhere. I love the dynamic between these two; their banter was funny and yet when it was serious, you could tell that both sisters were trying to let go of the past and move forward. Their past with each other is a tricky one, but they aren't fully to blame. Their mother is a she-devil who never cared for anyone but herself, I honestly felt so bad for both Kelly & Olivia, because they should have had a mother who loved them and nurtured them. I loved how Olivia branched out and started doing her own thing and finding her way. She really was an amazing planner and organizer and designer, and I was happy when Tulpen Crossing was open to her helpfulness and welcomed her.

Kelly & Olivia weren't the only main characters in this book, well at least for me; there was also, Griffith & Helen. Griffith & Kelly were fantastic together, and I absolutely LOVED what Griffith's profession was; I mean it really isn't common, but I think that is what made it all the more better. Griffith & Kelly each showed each other what real love was and Griffith was really Kelly's rock throughout this book. Helen is Kelly's best friend and I just loved her character. She was curvy and sweet and musically talented. My heart really went out to her, because I have been in her shoes before what with wanting to lose weight and have some body issue insecurities. Her character was just the sweetest and she brought a great dynamic in the Murphy family.

I loved Jeff & Sven, there characters really rounded out the story and their involvement with the other characters really worked well. I loved the romance that was woven in this book, it was centered on it, but it was just enough to placate the romantic in me. This book really was wonderful to read and I just loved the journey that Kelly, Olivia  Helen went on. Secrets of the Tulip Sisters is definitely one of my top reads for 2017 and I cannot wait to see what Susan Mallery comes out with next!!
