Review for Lost Rider by Harper Sloan

Title: Lost Rider
Series: Coming Home #1
Author: Harper Sloan
Publisher: Pocket Books
Publish Date: April 25, 2017

Synopsis

In Lost Rider, the first Western romance in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Harper Sloan's Coming Home series, an injured rodeo star encounters and old flame but will she be just what he needs to get back in the saddle?

Maverick Austin Davis is forced to return home after a ten-year career as a rodeo star. After one too many head injuries, he's off the circuit and in the horse farming business, something he's never taken much of a shine to, but now that it's his late father's legacy, familial duty calls. How will Maverick find his way after the only dream he ever had for himself is over?

Enter Leighton Elizabeth James, an ugly duckling turned beauty from Maverick's childhood--his younger sister's best friend, to be exact, and someone whose heart he stomped all over when she confessed her crush to him ten years back. Now Leighton is back in Maverick's life, no longer the insecure, love-stricken teen--and Maverick can't help but take notice. Sparks fly between them, but will Leighton be able to open her heart to the one man who broke it all those years ago?

Written in the vein of Diana Palmer and Lindsay McKenna, this Texas-set series is filled with sizzle, heart, and plenty of cowboys!

5 STARS!!

What an AMAZING book by Harper Sloan!! Lost Rider is my type of book; alpha cowboys, sassy women, love, passion, heartbreak & friendship.

Leighton James is one the best female lead characters that I have ever read. She is sweet yet sassy and will stand up to even the grouchiest of people. She has been through so much heartbreak, but instead of it dragging her down, she pushes herself up and moves on with life. Her friendship with Quinn is hilarious, oh and Jane!! Those two make Leighton blush and sputter so much, they have no boundaries. She has only loved one man in her entire life and that man broke her heart, but not her spirit. She has always been there for Maverick and has always believed in him, and even though she hasn't seen him in years, it still doesn't change how she feels.

Maverick is a very troubled man; he is a master of brooding, he is also sexy, charming, and a hard worker. My heart broke for what he was put through as a child, no one deserves to be treated like that. Maverick has always planned on leaving their small town, but he does regret leaving his siblings and the one woman who he has ever loved; Leighton. Maverick learned some eye opening revelations while he was doing the rodeo circuit, and it was tough for him at first, but when he comes back home, Leighton is there for him, in any way. I loved seeing Maverick become less and less haunted by the past and more open to the future. Leighton knocked down his walls and what she and everyone else saw underneath, was something beautiful.

The passion between Maverick & Leighton is explosive, always has been and always will be. I loved that Maverick wanted to prove to Leighton that he was there to stay and proved to her that she is and has always been the woman for him. I loved the bond that Maverick had with his siblings and how they are always there for each other. Maverick may not have come home in years, but you could tell when all the Davis children were there, there was a bond. Lost Rider brought me to tears but also made me laugh out loud and had me fanning myself. Harper Sloan is one of my favorite authors and this new series is off to a great start and I cannot wait for the next book!!
