Review: 5 STARS!!
What a great second book in the Dive Bar series!! This book was hilarious and sweet, but also heartbreaking and real.
Alex has got to be one of my favorite female lead characters of Kylie Scott's. Alex was funny & sweet, but she also had some issues. She lived in her own world, literally, she had one friend and barely left her home. My heart broke for her and what she was put through at the hands of bullies when she was a kid, but I also think that that experience helped shape her into the kind of person she was now. Alex doesn't do commitments and I loved seeing that type of personality through a woman's perspective. When she finally opened herself up and let someone in, she cherished that person and I loved seeing that nurturing side of her come out. Her friendship with Val was fantastic. I loved how those two were there for each other when the world around them was trying to tear them down. I was happy with Nell, Rosie & Lydia for accepting Alex into their little fold and showing her nothing but patience and kindness.
Joe was just a sexy lumberjack of a man. He had tattoos, a beard, a man bun and was a hard working man who had muscle and heart, I mean what else could you ask for?? Joe was a go to guy and a fixer. He was there for anyone of his friends whenever they needed him and he always tried to fix everything. He bent for other people and in turn lost out of things that he wanted. Alex gave him the courage to stand up for himself and I loved that. I loved how Joe pushed Alex out of her comfort zone and how Alex opened up Joe's eyes to all of the possibilities for himself. Together, these two had such an unconventional start that it was just too funny. I loved the banter between them, it is like they have known each other for so long and the awkwardness made me laugh. The chemistry was off the charts amazing and I love that Kylie Scott didn't make these characters perfect; they had imperfections, which I think made them more beautiful.
I loved the background drama surrounding Joe & Alex's story. It was heartbreaking, but something beautiful came out of it. Kylie Scott did a phenomenal job with these characters and their story. Joe & Alex were complex yet simple, and their story is one that will last with me for a long time. I am very excited for the next book in this series and I can't wait to see more of all of the characters!!
