Review: 5 STARS!!

This is the first book in the Modern Fairytale series and I absolutely loved it!! This is such a unique and heartbreaking yet beautifully romantic story. I love the elements of The Little Mermaid incorporated throughout the story and it just made me love it that much more.

Laire was a sweet character who had bigger dreams than just staying in her little hometown and bearing children. Laire was the baby of her family, and they treated her like it, but at the same time, her family knew she was different. Laire was kind and head strong, but also fearful about what her life was going to end up like. When she met Erik, it was like her world tipped upside down, but in a good way. She loved him with her whole heart, she truly did, but her family was pulling her in a different direction. I loved how brave Laire was and how she stood on her own two feet and made something of herself. She was a great mom and I loved that she kept Erik with them at all times, even if it was just in thought or letter form.

Erik loved Laire and I loved how he loved her. He was protective of Laire and that summer that they met, that was literally all he was doing. His mom was cruel and rude and only thought of what would end up benefiting her, and it broke my heart for bot Erik & Laire for what she said to Laire. When Laire left, Erik was a shell of himself. He was cold and unfeeling, then when he sees her again, it is like sunshine coming back into his life. I felt horrible that he missed out on so many years, but I understood where Laire was coming from. Erik was sweet and such a great father and when he loved someone, he loved with everything in him.

The connection between Erik & Laire was beautiful to witness. It was strong when they first met, and it didn't diminish when they were apart, and it burst like an explosion when they were reunited. Kate Regnery has a way with words and this story is definitely one of my top reads of 2017!! I cannot wait to see what comes next!!
