Review & Excerpt Tour for Lucian Divine by Renee Carlino

“My guardian angel is a drunk.”

Evelyn Casey's life is at a standstill. She's in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It's absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.

And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he's a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he's brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he's brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as ----. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.

For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.

Yes, God as in God.

“Evey, next time, in the next life we’ll be together—that’s how this will be corrected. This will be righted. This can’t be our forever fate. Next time we’ll live together, we’ll die together. We’ll experience every war together, inside ourselves and outside in the world. We won’t be out of reach, unavailable, unattainable, just love longing to be. Let’s keep moving fast in opposite directions. Keep praying we meet on the other side. I’ll see you there; I know I will. I have to believe that. Watch for me. I’ll be barreling toward you, arms wide open, and then we’ll crash into each other with the force of two spent lives yearning to be one.”

Review: 5 STARS!!

This is the first Renee Carlino book that I have read and I loved it!! This book was funny & witty with a romance that will touch your heart.

Lucian...I swear that angel had me laughing and swooning at the same time. He wasn't a normal type of guardian angel, no, he was in love with his human, Evelyn, and has been driven to become a drunk. Lucian's character in the beginning was not all unicorns and rainbows, he was more like a thunder cloud and rain, he was just so depressing and I felt bad for him, but at the same time, if I had to do what he did and endure it, I probably would have become a drunk also. His character really grew throughout the book and I loved it. He finally knew what true love felt like and took responsibility for his actions. Evelyn was sweet girl and when she met Lucian, she thought he was crazy when she met him and that whole meeting just had me in hysterics. Evelyn has been on the search for love and hasn't found it yet, but then Lucian shows her what true love is like and honestly, these two characters were perfect for each other. Evelyn was human and she brought a sense of balance to the relationship since Lucian was an angel.

These two characters have a passion for each other that burns hotter than the sun and their connection is stronger than anyone realized, because even when Lucian tried to make her forget him,she still remembered him in her dreams. The secondary characters were great and really rounded out the story. The banter and friendships and non friendships between Lucian and Zack and Mona and Abigail were very entertaining. Renee Carlino did a really great job making this book not so serious, yet serious at the same time. It is a book that while reading, it will make you smile and laugh and have fun, yet also have you swooning and wanting to know what will become of this couple or these characters. I cannot wait to see what Renee Carlino comes out with next!!
